It’s freaky how the generations in the immediate vacinity of Chuck D hang on to his every word and affix “cultural prophet”, “ambassador of black knowledge” (whatever that’s supposed to mean?), and “custodian of consciousness” labels to him. And yet to those of us a little greyer in the beard who were more immediately shaped by the Movements of the 60′s-70′s, he reflects the light heavyweight having to initiate and sustain the inching of the rock back up the hill again, battling the testimonials to self and bling which saturate the landscape facing today’s youth.
